Stillness on the Heights

W-2026-001

Formed through the collision of the African and Eurasian tectonic plates, the Matterhorn stands as one of the most recognisable peaks in the Swiss Alps, its sharp pyramidal form carved over millions of years by glacial erosion.

This stylised composition reflects on the enduring beauty and order found in creation.

The work forms part of an ongoing body of work titled The Witness Collection.

Design Approach

The work began with a measured graphite underdrawing to establish proportion, structure, and spatial alignment.

Colour was then built in controlled layers, preserving clarity while bringing the image into full presence.

Material Integrity

Original Painting:

This work is executed on Arches 300 gsm, 100% cotton, archival cold-pressed paper.

Its classic medium-grain, toothy surface imparts a painterly depth and natural granulation, enriching tonal variation.

  • Professional-grade pigments from Royal Talens and Daniel Smith, selected for their high lightfastness, ensure long-term colour stability.

  • Arches 300 gsm paper is pH-neutral, acid-free, and free from optical brighteners, manufactured to museum standards for long-term durability.

When displayed under UV-protective glass and away from direct sunlight, the work is designed to remain stable for over a century.

Limited Edition Giclée Prints:

Prints are produced on Hahnemühle Photo Rag® 308 gsm, a 100% cotton archival paper with a smooth matte surface and subtle texture.

Pigment-based inks are used to ensure high resistance to fading and colour shift.

Under normal display conditions, prints have an expected longevity of up to 80 years, and over 200 years when stored in archival conditions.
